Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual charged with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned communication data and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported child disappearance cases and continues to be unresolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I'm her? Then what? Is that not significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.
The tribunal was informed that through electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to express the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the months before the appearance to Rothley, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in that autumn, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their residence, the defendant dispatched a text which stated: "We are sitting near the McCanns' residence with our lights out like detectives. I desired to achieve this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
