Cars in German City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior representative stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
