Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt prepared to express about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can now put my grief into words," posted Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, commenting that he cannot recall "any day without joy".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese noted.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official decided to block the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate put a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
Following the killings, public personalities shared different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making controversial statements that were broadly criticized by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the those speaking out recently. Conversing on his program, Rogan described the comments as "disturbing" and remarked they revealed a concerning deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide could have stepped in when the choice to comment on the passing was made.
