Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will appear in the latest Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.

It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Significant Reunion for Fans

The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:

  • Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

  1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The much-discussed film is slated for November 2026 premiere.

Fans of the franchise can now look forward to the reunion of these defining characters to the cinema.
