Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following leading insulting songs targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Previous History Between Bamford & the Manager
Both men had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Struggles
The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
