Research Uncovers Over Four-Fifths of Natural Medicine Titles on Online Marketplace Likely Written by Artificial Intelligence

An extensive investigation has revealed that AI-generated material has infiltrated the herbalism publication category on Amazon, including offerings marketing gingko "memory-boost tinctures", fennel "tummy-soothing syrups", and "citrus-immune gummies".

Concerning Findings from Automation Identification Investigation

Per scanning 558 titles made available in the marketplace's natural medicines section between January and September of the current year, analysts determined that the vast majority were likely written by artificial intelligence.

"This is a concerning revelation of the widespread presence of unmarked, unconfirmed, unchecked, probably automated text that has completely invaded the platform," stated the analysis's main contributor.

Expert Worries About Artificially Produced Health Guidance

"There exists a huge amount of alternative medicine information available presently that's absolutely rubbish," said a professional herbal practitioner. "Artificial intelligence won't know how to sift through all the dross, all the garbage, that's completely irrelevant. It might misguide consumers."

Example: Bestselling Title Facing Scrutiny

An example of the seemingly AI-created titles, Natural Healing Handbook, currently maintains the No 1 bestseller in Amazon's skin care, essential oil treatments and alternative therapies subcategories. The publication's beginning markets the book as "a toolkit for individual assurance", encouraging users to "turn inward" for answers.

Questionable Author Background

The creator is named as Luna Filby, whose marketplace listing presents this individual as a "thirty-five year old herbalist from the seaside community of an Australian coastal town" and creator of the enterprise a herbal product line. However, none of the writer, the enterprise, or associated entities appear to have any digital footprint outside of the Amazon page for the book.

Recognizing Automatically Created Material

Analysis noted several warning signs that point to potential artificially produced alternative healing content, including:

  • Frequent employment of the nature icon
  • Nature-themed author names such as Flower names, Nature words, and Herbal terms
  • References to questionable alternative healers who have promoted unsupported remedies for serious conditions

Broader Phenomenon of Unverified Artificial Text

These publications form part of a larger trend of unchecked AI content marketed on the platform. Previously, foraging enthusiasts were cautions to bypass mushroom guides available on the site, ostensibly created by chatbots and including questionable guidance on differentiating between lethal fungus from safe ones.

Demands for Oversight and Marking

Industry officials have called for the platform to commence marking AI-generated text. "Every publication that is completely AI-created should be identified as AI-generated and AI slop should be removed as a matter of urgency."

Responding, the platform declared: "We have content guidelines governing which books can be displayed for sale, and we have active and responsive systems that assist in identifying content that breaches our guidelines, irrespective of if artificially created or otherwise. We commit substantial manpower and funds to make certain our requirements are adhered to, and remove titles that do not conform to those guidelines."
